Job Title : Utility
Reports to : Housekeeper
Main responsibilities:
- Work as a team member.
- “Meet and Greet” services.
- Must be correctly dressed when on duty.
- Make sure that all areas in your assigned place of duty are kept clean and tidy.
- Make sure the hygienic program set by the Housekeeper is carried out satisfactorily.
- Follow safe work routines and notify supervisor of any dangerous or unsafe place or equipment within your assigned place of duty.
- Whenever questioned by any passenger, all answers should be prompt and polite. Any problem must be reported to the duty officer at once.
- Keep your cabin clean and tidy. No food items, cooking utensils, etc are allowed in the cabin. Cabin inspections are carried out at
irregular hours.
- All meals to be taken in the Crew Mess.
- This is an outline of your duties. You may be called upon to perform other ad-hoc duties when required.
- Please refer to Vessel SMS - Chapter 5 - Hotel Procedures, for further guidance on what your role entails.
- The Utility should familiarise him/herself with Company instructions and procedures relevant to his/her position.
- Must be familiar with the ship’s “Emergency Plan”, the “Muster List”, the ship’s “Code of Conduct” and the “S.M.S”.
The substitute for the Utility is at the discretion of the Housekeeper.
Special Responsibilities
Utility, Mess Attendant
- Responsible for the hygiene regarding food and dishwashing.
- Make sure that all food is in the Mess at appropriate meal times.
Utility, Cleaner
- The working areas are Officers’ cabins/Staff cabins, alleyways, staircases, public areas, lifts and public toilets.
Utility, Day/Night
- Responsible for all non food & drink cabin service required from passengers.
- Responsible for the locking of all pantry and locker doors at night. The same doors to be unlocked between 06:45 – 07:00 hrs.
- The Night Steward/ess shall be aware of fire hazards and be on the look out for beginning fires when he/she makes her rounds. Any
suspicious smell or heat to be reported to the Duty Officer immediately.
- Responsible for reporting to Duty Officer any crewmember observed in passenger areas outside their working hours.
- Night Steward/ess responsible for duties allocated to Night Cleaners is carried out as instructed.
Utility, Florist
- Responsible for arranging, maintaining and delivering all flowers and plants onboard.
- Responsible for correct storage and safekeeping of all flowers and plants onboard.
- Responsible for ordering and issuing appropriate requisitions.
- Be cost conscious, control wastage & usage of all flowers, equipment, and Company property.
